Petrine is very excited to announce Demos, Sophie Kovel’s second solo exhibition with the gallery, opening September 18 from 6-9pm.

Demos continues Kovel’s interest in SCIFs (sensitive compartmented information facilities). Across installation and photography, Kovel shows the limits of public understanding of restricted infrastructure, and the limits of its representation.

Sophie Kovel (b. 1996, Los Angeles) lives and works between Paris and New York. Recent solo exhibitions include diez, Amsterdam (2025); Space n.n., Munich (2024); Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2024); and Petrine, Paris (2023). Kovel has been included in exhibitions at Romance, Pittsburgh (2026); Kaiserwache, Freiburg im Breisgau (2026); the Hessel Museum of Art, Annandale-On-Hudson (2026); Art in General, New York (2025); NEON Art Foundation, Athens (2024); UncleBrother, Hancock (2023); Jenkins Johnson Gallery, New York (2023); and Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen (2020). Kovel graduated from Columbia University’s MFA in New Genres, where she was awarded the Agnes Martin and Andrew Fisher Fellowships, and was a 2022 studio fellow in the Whitney Museum’s Independent Study Program.

Kovel’s first institutional exhibition in Germany opens at Haus am Waldsee, Berlin on October 16, 2026.
